AN OPEN LETTER TO
MARYLAND’S EASTERN SHORE
DISTRICT 37 VOTERS
Dear Friends and Neighbors:
I am contacting you personally because the upcoming primary election in Maryland will be one of the most important local elections in our lifetime.
My name is Chris Robinson, Democratic candidate for the Maryland State Senate, District 37. I am writing to ask for your support and for your vote on Tuesday, November 2, 2010.
I am running for the Maryland State Senate because I am committed to working with citizens like you who want to preserve the quality of life we enjoy on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.
A life-long Democrat, lawyer, small business owner and resident of Trappe, I have proudly served the people of the Shore for nearly thirty years, as Legislative Director and Chief of Staff in the United States Congress and as a lawyer with a general law practice in Cambridge. I served as President of the Dorchester County Bar, Counsel to the Board of Elections and Board of License Commissioners. I have represented children and victims of domestic violence on the Mid-Shore, was recognized for Outstanding Service by the Mid-Shore Council on Family Violence and by the Mid-Shore Pro-Bono Project where I serve as a Board Member and provide free or reduced-fee legal services to low income clients. I serve on the Board of the Boys and Girls Club of Cambridge and the Adult Guardianship Review Board. I am a member of the Chamber of Commerce.
As a fiscal conservative, I believe in limited government that reflects the felt necessities of our times, embraces traditional Eastern Shore values, rewards hard work, applies common sense solutions to our problems, respects our special relationship with the land and water and honors our commitment to the careful stewardship of our natural resources and our Shore heritage—a heritage steeped in farming and working on the water.
I will support sound economic policies, including lower taxes and reduced spending across the board, that provide long term economic benefits and good, sustainable jobs on the Shore. I will work to bring vitally needed infrastructure improvements to our communities that attract new businesses and encourage growth in existing ones. We must be able to compete in a growing, competitive global market and a first rate education, whether vocational or academic, is essential to meeting the complex challenges we face today. As a small business owner I know first hand the relationship between a well educated, skilled workforce and opportunities for business development and job creation. I will strongly support our teachers who prepare our children for the challenges ahead, our vocational and community colleges that meet the needs of our communities, and encourage meaningful parental involvement in early education.
Two of our most important businesses are farming and fisheries and together they represent the heart and soul of our Shore way of life. Their vitality and long term sustainability depend upon the very things that make the Shore a special place to live and work—the rural character of our land and the health and quality of our waters. Preserving, improving and protecting our natural resources will always be my highest priority.
As your Senator, I will be a tireless advocate for a healthy environment, for restoring our Chesapeake Bay, creeks and rivers to their once pristine quality, for our farmers and watermen, educators, small business owners, veterans, seniors—citizens from all walks of life on the Shore.
If you support these important goals, I ask for your support in this election and for your vote on Tuesday, November 2, 2010.
Thank you very much.
Sincerely yours,
Chris Robinson
